API 2W Grade 50T Steel Plate
API 2W Grade 50T steel plate is produced in accordance with the fifth edition (December 2006) of API’s Specification 2W. This specification allows for the production of intermediate strength steel plate utilizing Thermo-Mechanical Control Processing (TMCP). Depending on customer preference, API 2W can normally be directly substituted for plate ordered to API Specification 2H or API Specification 2Y. In many situations, customers actually prefer API 2W because due to its low-carbon content it offers superior weldability to that of either API 2H or API 2Y.
API Monogram
RELIABLE PIPES & TUBES LTD. API 2W Grade 50T plate is licensed by the American Petroleum Institute to carry the API monogram.
Typical Applications
API 2W Grade 50T steel plates are intended for fabrication primarily by cold forming and welding. Plate produced to this specification is used for welded construction of offshore structures in selected critical sections that must exhibit good impact properties and resistance to fatigue and lamellar tearing.

Charpy Impact Properties
One Charpy V-notch test, consisting of three transverse specimens, is made on each plate rolled that is produced by TMCP. The specimens are taken from the mid-width and mid-thickness locations of the plate. Due to the low carbon and sulfur contents of API 2W plates, the energy of the full-size specimens will often exceed the limits of ASTM E23; therefore, sub-sized specimens are allowed per the following table:
